I consider my work as a celebration of the natural world. The subjects I tend to choose are the animals and plants with whom I can develop a personnal relationship through observation. This has long been a spiritual undertaking for me, which I think it can only be. And this I bring to my work. When I render a subject and attempt to capture it's spirit, I like to think that I am doing the work of an accomplished novelist. I hope to leave the observer with a feeling that they have had a similar experience as well.
Rod Bearup's unique background in engineering accompanied by his technical skills in metalworking, glass enameling and hot glass working has provided him with the tools to create an artform to be found nowhere else. With the addition of the hot glass skills to his repertoire, he could finally achieve the flower constructions he had been envisioning for years.
